Supplementary Instructional Assistance

Supplementary assistance is provided to students in grades Kindergarten through eight through the use of Title I, Part A federal funds. Students are provided instruction in reading and mathematics as additional support to the instruction received in the regular classroom program.

Students are selected to receive the additional instruction based on a several factors. Students are ranked and served according to needs. The criteria used in determining placement of students in the program include, but are not always limited to the following:
  • Standardized achievement results
  • Free/Reduced-priced meal status
  • Previous recent retention
  • Family status and
  • Language acquisition assessment results

Students are served at all levels through a pull out program in the least disruptive manner. Supplementary reading teachers communicate regularly with the students’ regular classroom teachers to insure future progress and use research-based methods and students are evaluated throughout the school year. As a student progresses to the point where he or she can return successfully to the regular classroom without further intervention, the student is placed on “monitored” status.

Presently the Supplementary Reading/Mathematics teachers in the Albertville City School System are
  • BIG SPRING LAKE KINDERGARTEN: Mrs. Brenda Spurlin
  • ALBERTVILLE PRIMARY SCHOOL: First Grade – Mrs. Joyce Freshwater and Second  Grade - Mrs. Lydia Leija
  • ALBERTVILLE ELEMENTARY: Third Grade – Mrs. Patty Warren and Fourth Grade – Mrs. Kari Harris
  • EVANS ELEMENTARY: Fifth Grade – Mrs. Terri Gillilan and Mrs. Stephanie Williams
